A Course in Miracles was written by Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford, two professors of psychology at Columbia University.  At one point during the 1960s, having reached a point of frustration with their personal and professional lives, Helen and Bill mutually agreed to seek a better, more harmonious way of relating to each other.  Over the course of the next several years, Helen received countless insights into this "other way," which she transcribed into A Course in Miracles.

A Course in Miracles

A Course in Miracles (review or buy) is a set of three books: a Text, Workbook, and Manual for Teachers.  The Course was originally published in 1976, and has gained national recognition through the efforts of such authors as Marianne Williamson, Wayne Dyer, and Jerry Jampolsky.

The Text is the philosophical background of A Course in Miracles, and incorporates elements of Christian mysticism and psychological theory.  The companion Workbook, a set of 365 "lessons", provides a daily framework for studying the thoughts in the Course.  Finally, the Manual for Teachers is a brief question-and-answer volume which covers questions about the Course's ideas.  Together, the books comprise over one thousand pages.
